The "Reconversion and Exploration of Porto’s Former Industrial Slaughterhouse " aims to transform that building, deactivated about 20 years ago, into an anchor facility for the rehabilitation of the eastern part of the city, based on the axes of social cohesion, economy and culture.
The intervention program foresees the complete conversion of the complex, maintaining its historical memory and architectural nature, in diversified and multipurpose business spaces; commercial and leisure spaces of local support; spaces intended for social action and connection with the local community; and spaces of a cultural and artistic nature, intended for exhibition, production and storage.
Its architecture will have the signature of the prestigious architect Kengo Kuma, responsible for major world projects, namely for the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Stadium and who for this project was associated with the OODA architecture studio, a firm based in Porto.
Between Rua de São Roque da Lameira and Estádio do Dragão, the project establishes a public pedestrian route, through the construction of a new overpass that crosses the VCI and will allow a direct connection to the Dragon metro station.
